We are excited to announce the new publication “Upper-Class Youth Activism: A Systematic Mapping Review of the Literature,” published in Sociological Focus journal. This comprehensive study, prepared by postdoc Simon Eten Angyagre, project head Miri Yemini and researcher Tatiana Khavenson, provides the first structured overview of research on high socioeconomic status youth activism — a unique subfield within youth social movements.
The review reveals important insights into how privileged young people engage in political action, highlighting both the theoretical diversity in the field and the need for more specialized approaches to understanding this demographic’s activism. Our findings indicate growing scholarly interest in the pedagogical dimensions of upper-class youth participation in social justice movements and the complex dynamics of class reproduction within activist spaces. This work contributes to our lab’s broader mission of understanding how socioeconomic factors shape youth political engagement and social change efforts.
