Former STUDACT postdoc Carla Inguaggiato, PhD student Mania Borzenko, and project head Miri Yemini published their new article, “Policing participation: the policy boundaries of youth activism in Italy,” in the Journal of Youth Studies. The study offers a critical policy analysis of 33 Italian national policy documents, examining how youth are constructed, how citizenship education is conceptualized, and how youth civic and political engagement is framed within policy discourse.
The analysis reveals that Italian policy tends to depict young people primarily as vulnerable rather than as autonomous political actors, favors conventional forms of civic participation, and leans toward liberal-republican approaches to citizenship education over critical or diversity-oriented alternatives. The article is open access.
