New publication: How European students engage with social change

29 Mar 2026

A new article by lab head Miri Yemini, researcher Martyna Elerian, collaborator Ullrich Bauer, and former postdoc Carla Inguaggiato has been published in European Educational Research Journal: “The habitus of activism: How European students engage with social change.”

The study draws on thematic analysis of 83 discussion groups with secondary school students in Italy, Germany, and Poland to explore how activism is embedded in young people’s habitus across different national contexts. The findings suggest that activism has become a normalized, accessible part of youth identity and daily life — not merely a reaction to crisis — with national context shaping how this activist habitus develops.
