New publication: Australian young women engaging with online feminisms

A new article by STUDACT collaborators Garth Stahl and Yating Hu, STUDACT project head Miri Yemini, and researcher Tatiana Khavenson has been published in Sociological Focus: “Australian Young Women Engaging with Online Feminisms as Public Pedagogies in an Era of #Hashtag Activism.”

Drawing on 35 deliberative discussion groups with 91 young Australian women aged 12–18 across diverse secondary schools, the study explores how girls engage with feminist movements on digital platforms in the post-#MeToo era and reconcile these messages with their offline lives. Three key themes emerged: the silence of schools pushing young women toward digital spaces as sites of feminist learning; their identification with online feminist movements; and the tensions between digital feminist culture and lived experience.
