We are thrilled to announce that our lab team, Dr. Tatiana Khavenson and Prof. Miri Yemini, and Prof. Garth Stahl (The University of Queensland), have published a new article in the Review of Educational Research (RER). This is an outstanding achievement, as RER is consistently recognized as one of the top 3 most influential journals in the entire field of educational research.
Their article, “Whose Voices Are Heard in the Scholarship on Activism Related to School-Aged Youth With Migrant Backgrounds? A Systematic Review,” analyzes 126 articles from 2007 to 2023. The review finds that while migrant youth engage in activism to secure their rights, the research scholarship on this topic is often dominated by the perspectives of allies (like NGOs and schools) rather than the youths’ own lived experiences. This analysis helps map the field and highlights a critical gap in the existing literature.
