As part of STUDACT’s WP1, the project’s researchers Vanessa R. Sperduti, Miri Yemini, and Tatiana Khavenson have published their article “Collective voices making change: a literature review of black youth activism in the United States” in Educational Review. The study analyzed 84 peer-reviewed studies published from 2012 to 2023, revealing that Black youth frequently serve as primary initiators of activism rather than mere participants. The research, which examined data from EBSCO, ERIC, and Web of Science databases, found that most activism operates at the local level and spans multiple academic disciplines, highlighting both the dispersed nature of the field and the notable prominence of youth-led initiatives. The findings underscore a critical research gap, demonstrating the need for more focused studies on youth-led social movements to fully understand their scope and impact on community change.
